Happy New Year!

Goodness- saying 2016 was a big year is quite the understatement. It has been a huge year of growth, celebration, success, and heartbreak for all at HSES.
We kicked off the year with the move to the 200 acre Horse Shepherd Park in January. Lucky we had the extra space- in February, 113 neglected mares (70% in foal), stallions, colts, and fillies were seized by the RSPCA, and brought to HSES to commence their rehabilitation. Heartbreak followed in April, with the arrival of the tragic Bulla horses; their skeletal frames that shocked us all. It has been a honour and a privilege- and at times, a devastating task- to return these horses to health. As a team, we are so proud of their progress.
2016 also saw the establishment of Henny Penny’s; ethical eggs for rescue. Ex-battery hens now live in free-ranging bliss at HSES. So many vulnerable animals have come through our gates: dogs, baby goats, dumped mini ponies…. There were times that we were stretched beyond our limits; both financially and with time, and we had to say no. While this was heartbreaking, our values of sustainable, ethical rescue and rehabilitation have held strong. Another high- our gorgeous Winston turned 40!
So many wonderful horses have received excellent training through our partnership with Chris Giles- Equine Education. These horses have subsequently gone to fantastic homes, with their adoptees becoming a part of the ever-growing HSES family.
There has been lots more activity on our social media pages, allowing our work to circulate to an unprecedented amount of people across the globe. We cannot thank our supporters enough for their likes, shares, and comments. Even talking about horse welfare issues with your family and friends helps us immensely. Special thanks to those who visited us on our Open Day- it was awesome to see so many of you!
A huge, heartfelt thanks to our small but loyal group of private and corporate sponsors, who support us in providing the best possible care for all our animals. Thank you to our supporters who have generously donated goods, time, or money to HSES; it is so very appreciated (and vital to our survival!).
We hope you’ve enjoyed sharing our journey with us this year. From all at HSES, we wish you and your families a happy, healthy 2017.15776769_1826024361005595_5588598610594768843_o
